How to exfoliate your skin without attacking it?

Gentle, natural, homemade scrubs. There are lots of possibilities if you want to exfoliate your skin, but how can you be sure to use the right method? We will explain everything to you.

Your skin is constantly renewing itself. Small dead skin cells that are invisible to the naked eye are replaced every minute by new ones. In addition to cleansing your skin and removing dead cells, exfoliation also unclogs your pores and limits excess oil production. The best way to regain clear skin and a radiant complexion is to exfoliate. You should, however, be careful about the type of scrub you use, as not all are suitable for every type of skin.

If you have dry skin, exfoliation will remove too much dead skin that often prevents moisturizers from penetrating. Once or twice a month gentle exfoliation will therefore be preferred. Despite the fact that dry skin deserves to be exfoliated, it requires less exfoliation than oily or combination skin. So as not to damage your skin, use gentle exfoliation with small grains. If you want to exfoliate correctly, first moisten your skin with a cotton pad soaked in lukewarm water, then, using an exfoliating product, gently massage your face for one or two minutes in small circular movements. After rinsing with cold water, moisturize your skin with your usual day cream.

For oily skin

Oily skin needs exfoliation most to remove excess sebum and blackheads. Be careful not to choose too strong an exfoliation and too brutal an application. For oily skin, choose a scrub with small or medium grains. Apply your exfoliant after moisturizing your skin, just as you would for dry skin. Massage in a circular motion for 1-2 minutes, focusing on the T-zone, often the oiliest part of the face. Then rinse with cold water and don’t forget to moisturize. The scrub can be repeated once a week.

For normal to combination skin

Those with normal to combination skin should choose a clarifying scrub that absorbs excess sebum from their T-zone, without drying out the other parts of your face. Indeed, if you choose a scrub suitable for oily skin, it will rather tend to “strip” your skin too much, which will react by producing even more sebum. Not requiring any particular precaution, normal to combination skin must however be exfoliated with gentle scrubs with medium gains, at the rate of once a week maximum. If you want to increase its exfoliating effects tenfold, do not moisten your face before applying the exfoliant.
